A newsletter is a critical tool that your use to send out information to your audience. The day and time you send it out plays a major role in the overall effectiveness of your email marketing. You want your audience to find the time to read your email and take an action if possible. And to do that you need to be able to reach them a time convenient for them.
Here are some of the things you could consider before fixing that day/time.
-Target audience demographic –
When are they available? What do they do during the week? What are the problems that keep them awake at night? How does your product or service solve those problems? When are they most likely to take an action based on your email?
-Type of content –
What kind of newsletter do you have? Promotional – based on a time-based offer, Educational – for a more leisure read or is it Transactional?
– Marketing goal –
What do you want your audience to do when they receive your email? Scan through? Remind themselves about an upcoming event? Have a deep engagement?
Once you have your answers you can then set a certain Day and Time for your Email newsletter.
Based on research,
~Monday is not such a great day to send out a newsletter as people are busy catching up on work emails.
~Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are considered best days of the week when people usually have a bit more space to fit in extra reading over and above their daily work.
~Friday afternoons could also work as people wind down and don’t mind reading something new.
~Saturday and Sunday are the least used days specially for task-based emails, however if you have a blog or a more educational newsletter, Sunday morning could be good time to connect.
Research also shows that most emails are opened consistently through the work week at about 10am and then at about 2-3pm (post lunch quick check).
Whatever day and time you decide on, keep it CONSISTENT! As humans we all crave consistency and no matter what day or time you finally choose, your audience will get used to it and will start expecting your newsletter on the same day/time. So keep it going with regular, timely and authentic content.
