Why You Should Host a Workshop (Even If You’re Nervous)

If you’re a coach, consultant, or healer who’s brilliant at what you do but finds it hard to share that with the world, you’re not alone.

Many of the women entrepreneurs I work with are incredibly skilled. They’ve invested in hours of training. They’ve helped people transform. They know their craft inside and out. But when it comes to visibility—putting themselves out there, speaking up, being seen—they hesitate.

“I’m not social media savvy.” I hear. Maybe the idea of going live feels overwhelming and before all the promotion and shouting out that you have to do. Maybe you’re waiting until you have it all figured out. I get it. I’ve been there.

But here’s what I’ve learned after hosting dozens of workshops—in coffee shops, co-working spaces, in restaurants, and on Zoom. With small groups and larger audiences. I’ve even gone ahead with a collaborative workshop that had just two participants! Pure gold as I got my first coaching client from there.

Workshops are one of the most powerful (and authentic) ways to connect with your audience, build trust, and grow your business. And you don’t need to be polished, perfect, or have a huge following to get started.

What Workshops Actually Do for Your Business A workshop isn’t just an event. It’s an experience. It gives people a chance to:

– See who you are (beyond Linkedin or your website) and how you work.
– Experience your approach firsthand. Get a chance to know you better.
– Get real, practical value from you.
– Decide if you’re the right fit for them.

And for you, it’s a way to:
– Build trust without having to “sell”
– Position yourself as someone who helps (not just talks about helping)
– Create real conversations and connections
– Open the door to clients, collaborations, and opportunities.

Workshops aren’t about convincing people. They’re about helping the right people find you.

Why Workshops Feel Different Than Other Marketing Yes, you’ll need to invest time in creating, pricing, and promoting your workshop. But when you truly know your niche and understand the problems they’re facing, it won’t feel like a push—it’ll feel like an invitation. Workshops are different from endless posting on Instagram or creating Reels that make you cringe. (I’m with you—I hate videos too.) Instead of shouting into the void and hoping someone notices, you’re inviting people into a focused, valuable experience. You’re not performing. You’re sharing what you know in a way that genuinely helps. And here’s the thing: don’t let participant numbers deter your enthusiasm. Workshops don’t require a massive audience to be effective. Some of my best workshops had just 6–8 participants. They led to client connections, collaborations, word-of-mouth referrals, and deeper relationships within my community. Small and engaged beats large and distracted every time.

How Do You Actually Get Started? This is where most people get stuck. You might know ‘what’ you want to teach. But then the questions start piling up:
– How do I choose the right topic?
– How do I structure it so people stay engaged?
– Should I charge or offer it for free?
– How do I promote it if I don’t have a big audience?
– What platform should I use?
– What if only 3 people show up?

These are real concerns. And they’re often what keeps talented, capable coaches from ever hosting their first workshop. The truth is you don’t need to have it all figured out before you start. You just need:
– Clarity on who you’re helping
– A topic that addresses a real struggle they’re facing
– A simple structure that guides the experience
– The willingness to show up and be helpful That’s it!

I’m hosting a workshop on “How to Plan Your Own Workshop” and I’m going to walk through everything I’ve learned from a decade of planning and hosting events—workshops, panels, pop-ups, and collaborative sessions. If this resonates with you, I’d love to have you join me. Here is the link https://www.eventbrite.hk/e/how-to-plan-your-own-workshop-a-step-by-step-guide-for-solopreneurs-tickets-2002392906085 and as a special ‘Thank you’ for reading my blog till the end, feel free to use the promo code MTW0RKSH0P at check-out.

Let’s make your first workshop happen. 💙
